Antwerp’s Christmas market is a warm and cosy place where you can forget about the cold during the dark winter months. Last year, the Christmas market drew 1 million visitors with its snug cafés, tasty treats, heart-warming drinks and creative gifts.

The event will take place from Saturday the 8th of December 2018 until Sunday the 6th of January 2019. All the ingredients are available to ensure that residents and visitors have an unforgettable winter holiday experience. In addition to the ferris wheel, ice rink and tubing track, there is also a traditional Christmas market.

Dates of the Christmas market 2018-2019

The Christmas market starts on Saturday the 8th of December 2018 and ends on Sunday the 6th of January 2019. On Saturday the 8th of December, Winter in Antwerp will be festively opened.

When can you apply?

Are you an entrepreneur, creative business or non-profit organisation? Then you can apply for the Christmas market from the 15th of June and be part of the winter magic.

What can you sell in your chalet?

• Consumption (drinks or food to be consumed on location
• Merchandise (products not to be consumed on location)
• Chalet for weekly hire for start-up companies (products not to be consumed on location)
• Charity chalet (products not to be consumed on location)

Do you need to reapply each year?

Yes, you must register again every year for a chalet that sells drinks or food. The permit for a chalet with merchandise can only be extended two times. To be eligible for an extension, you must score 70 points in the jury’s ranking. The jury will visit the Christmas market unannounced.

• You are only eligible for an extension if you sell the same type of products at the next Christmas market.
• You are only eligible for an extension if you paid on time.
• The jury will check whether the products that you described in your registration correspond with the products you effectively offer for sale (30 points).
• The jury will check whether the quality of the products on sale is good (30 points).
• The jury will evaluate the presentation of the products and the layout and arrangement of the chalet for Christmas atmosphere (20 points).
• The jury will check whether the stallholder complies with the Christmas market’s rules and regulations and works well with the organisers (20 points).

Those who have recieved an extension will be informed by mail.
