Antwerp-based B.O.X, which uses Baroque sounds to compose new music, considered “Antwerp Baroque 2018. Rubens inspires” an excellent opportunity to do what it has been doing for many years with great verve, in its own city and on a larger scale, namely to break down musical barriers.
B.O.X. is partnering with Efterklang (DK) for “Antwerp Baroque 2018. Rubens inspires” to create a completely new set of songs and Baroque soundscapes, with 45 minutes of new music. The groups are inspired by Baroque chord progressions, albeit that their dynamic is different.
Danish Efterklang by far is the best-known group with which B.O.X has already collaborated. Having performed everywhere, from Sydney’s Opera House and in rock temples as well as at the Copenhagen Opera Festival, they were even invited to create a sound installation in restaurant Noma. The group is constantly evolving and is always searching for new ways to innovate. Efterklang means “reverberation”, but can also be loosely translated as “memory”, which is a perfect description of this Danish band’s soft and pure electro-acoustic music.
