This Is Antwerp invited 12 internationals to Discover Antwerp Through Experience, in short to go on a D.A.T.E. with Antwerp from the 3rd until the 8th of November. We’ll show them the best hidden secrets, jaunt the hottest places, survive workshops together, enjoy the finest meals and much more. But most important they will meet that one important thing that fuels Antwerp to be the dynamic city that it is today: creative people.
We asked our locals to keep us upD.A.T.E.d ( word plays, we know... but it's stronger then ourselves ) of what our guest are doing to discover Antwerp. Yesterday we asked our local Swa to join our internationals on their 3D printing workshop with .
Nothing brings us closer to the future than a 3D printer. The technology behind it is developing so fast and is accessible for ( almost ) every budget.
This Is Antwerp set up a meeting with 3DEE, an Antwerp 3D printing pop-up store. Tom Dekyvere from Studio Sinth introduced our guests step by step into the future by uncovering all the little (and big) secrets in the world of 3D printing, scanning and modelling.
Tom is an artist working with sculptures. Since he discovered the possibilities of printing in 3D he felt he had no choice but to thoroughly explore this dimensional world. He got very passionate about finding the perfect balance between nature and contemporary people.
We got consecrated into his world of melted PLA (smells like corn!), body-scans and of course the printers itself.
In the 3DEE shop we could witness how all kinds of different printers create sculptures and see how different materials can be used in 3D-printing. From copper to iron, from plastic to wood, the possibilities are countless. Oh, and did I mention all materials used are eco-friendly? Even the plastic used for printing is natural and completely decomposes just after 4 years.
After this brief introduction we got the chance to design something ourselves. The master himself showed us how to work with different drawing programs to create a 3D model of your own logo, drawing, tattoo or creative design. Actually anything is possible!
And the best part, he'll print it for us! We promised to put some pictures of the results on This Is Antwerp soon!
If you're in town, it's definitely worth a visit. Just walk in and look into the world of tomorrow or check their website for workshops.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to miss a thing. We asked our This Is Antwerp locals to cover most of the workshops for you. So keep an eye out for our blog or follow us on , or !
