Most of my friends would say that I know my city better than my own house. I’m that person who gets random text messages of friends asking me where to drink, where to eat, where to party, and so on. So I was a little bit surprised when I downloaded the Antwerp Museum App. For someone who claims to know everything there is to know about the city, I sure didn’t know half of all the walking tours.

Comics

I started with taking the “comicbook walls” tour, since I used to be the biggest teen comic book reader in history. So you can imagine my surprise the app told me that there are 10 different comic walls in our city! I knew that there was one from (at the Pieter van Hobokenstraat) and the one from (Kloosterstraat), but I was thrilled to read that (who was my all-time favorite character) and even have their own wall. Moreover, when I was taking the tour there were a lot of buildings where I walk passed every weekend of which I didn’t even realize that they had drawings on in the first place! Shame on me!

Poetry

Next up was the "poetry wall" tour. Over the years I’ve become fonder of poetry and I’ve written some pieces myself so I can tell you honestly that I admire our city poets. Their words are like music to my ears so I was particularly happy to find this tour in the app. This tour was a little bit longer than I anticipated because you have to cross the river to find the last wall, but I can tell you that it was definitely worth it! If I might add a tip, there is one piece of poetry that isn’t included in the app, but also worth checking out. It's on the wall next to the Castle Het Steen. It's probably not included in the app because it’s not a real wall, more of a rampart, nevertheless worth checking out!

Museums

Since the app is called the Antwerp Museum App, I had to check out at least one museum right? Since the sun was shining I didn’t feel the need to go visit an indoor museum, but luckily for me, Antwerp has an outdoor museum as well! The is a park with lots of modern art by famous sculptors. Because there's so much to see, I never had the intention to inspect which statues I like best. For years I’ve been wondering why there was a boat in front of the park hanging halfway into the water. And thanks to the app, I’ve finally received my explanation!

Overall, this app is amazing. I’ve discovered hidden pearls and I’ve gained a lot of knowledge! Don’t hesitate and download it right away!
