Last week saw the launch of , Antwerp's latest pop-up space, located near the "Het Eilandje" neighborhood. This Is Antwerp made the field trip and found out all the details just for you.
Contrair can be found in the former building of the Necap company, right next to the Red Star Line Museum. The temporary venue will be hosting all kinds of events in it's spaces until April 16th. What kind of events you ask? Anything goes, really. Cutting-edge parties, movie screenings, exhibitions and so much more... Contrair wishes to be a space for anyone's creative ideas. There's even a weekly ping-pong tournament planned!
To ensure you can explore all of that creativity in a delightful way, furniture designers Nathalie Teugels, Lennart Van Uffelen and the people of the Nachtcollectief, took care of the setting. Enjoy a drink at the custom wooden bar, have a convo on the near cosy couches, rave the night away in the industrial party-space or discover art in the hangar. Contrair's got you covered!
Masterminds behind the project are promotors Yves Massignani (aka DJ Hush Hefner) and Thomas Van Praag, together VZW Tegendraads. Massignani is perhaps most known in Antwerp for being the -parties homeboy and the good news now is that those parties will be held weekly instead of monthly for the duration of Contrair's existence. Weekly dancing to eighties, nineties, noughties throwbacks mashed-up with current urban good-good on a jam-packed dancefloor? In this setting? With a Velo-bike station right in front of the venue? Where do we sign-up?
Without a doubt, Antwerp's place to be this spring!
