Have you heard? There is talk in town about a cozy, little shop that sells unique items from all over the globe. Take a peak past the boutiques and glorified food stands at ‘De Wilde Zee’ and discover a pop-up store called Paulette in ‘t stad (“Paulette in the city”).
Walking past the store, it’s hard not to be intrigued by either the colorful name stickered on the window or by the inviting chairs sitting right next to the door. Step inside and it’s easy to forget you’re standing in a little shop in the middle of Antwerp; eastern carpets, colorful china, jungle vibes and bamboo chairs, you name it. It’s like stepping into a world map, except you can actually buy the items you like.
There to help you, is shop owner Paulette. Graduated business engineer and daughter of an interior designer, Paulette’s interest in interior was never far away. But it was only after travelling around the world that she got into the business. “I have always been into handicrafts and I used to make all kinds of stuff with my sister, like picture frames and flower pots. Not only that, but if I see something unique at a market or a yard sale or wherever, I just can’t help myself. I have to bring it home with me. Eventually my apartment was so packed that I decided to hold a home-sale and, a bit to my own surprise, it turned out great. A lot of people showed up and that’s where I got word about this space. It was empty and they needed a tenant asap, preferably a startup, and I was getting more and more into interior design. Everything just came together and now here I am.”
And present she is, going to Paulette in ‘t stad equals a warm welcome and a hearty chat, while browsing some of the most unique items a house can hold. Three days a week you can find Paulette at her shop, the other days she’s out hunting for more exclusive items to show and sell. Additionally, she does styling and decorating on demand. So, if you’re looking to spice up your living room or you’re just a sucker for rare items, Paulette in ‘t stad is the place you should have gone to yesterday. If not, the store is still open until the end of May (at least).
You can find Paulette in ‘t stad at Rosier 1 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the end of May. Also, be sure to follow her and for the latest information.
