Antwerp Baroque 2018 pays tribute to Peter Paul Rubens, making the
the perfect place to start your Baroque immersion. The museum is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. (pay to enter). Ensemble Clematis will perform ‘Alla Mantovana’ at 11 a.m., 11.30 a.m. and 12 p.m.

Middelheim Museum
has plenty of surprises in store for you, with creations by Belgian and international artists who were all inspired by the Baroque.

Monumental churches
The five monumental churches are open to the public:

Cathedral of Our Lady (pay to enter) from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Cathedral is mainly known for its paintings by Rubens, such as ‘The Raising of The Cross’ and ‘The Descent from the Cross’

St Charles Borromeo (free) from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Rubens contributed to the design of the tower, the façade, the high altar, the stucco on the ceiling, the Chapel of the Virgin, as a painter, decorator and architect. You can also see his painting ‘The Return from Egypt’ there.

St. Paul’s Church (free) from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. A Baroque gem in a Gothic shrine with stunning Baroque altars and works by such artists as Rubens, Jordaens and Van Dyck

St. James’s Church (pay to enter) from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. This late-Gothic gem has a lavish Baroque interior, with 23 altars, with marble everywhere. The church also has a phenomenal art collection. You can also see Rubens’s tomb is here

St. Andrew’s Church (free) from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Rubens’s first parish church, where you can also see a work by his teacher Otto van Veen.
Baroque in the city
: The Antwerp street artist Yvon Tordoir invited three other artists to create large murals in the city. Festive activities will take place near one of the murals on Sunday.
