Music

Antwerp is an outstanding place for music lovers. The top names in rock and pop find their way to the Sportpaleis, the Vlaamse Opera regularly puts on world-renowned productions, and fans of strings and wind instruments can check out venues such as DeSingel or Cofena. Jazz aficionados enjoy concerts at places such as De Muze or Café Hopper.

Overview

All major artists that visit Antwerp stop in the Sportpaleis (sports palace) or its smaller variant, the Lotto Arena. Artists who have sung their lungs out here include Madonna, U2 and Beyoncé and there i s also the annual recurring Night of the Proms – a modern ode to classical music.
Both the audience and artists feel at home in TRIX. From small parties and public rehearsals to concerts: TRIX’s stage is available. The concert calendar mainly lists young talent that’s active in several subgenres and is always worth discovering.

deSingel is a huge art site for theatre, dance, music and architecture in Antwerp. The meeting place for a wide art-minded audience and a breeding ground for artistic creations. deSingel wants to reach as many people as possible with its challenging programme.
AMUZ is a special music centre due to its location, the former St Augustine’s church was converted into a modern concert hall,and due to its exception programme, drawn up in a historic-scientific mann er that aims to make music from all eras and styles more accessible.
With its 2000 seats, De Roma was once the largest cinema in the city.Today this majestic hall is an atmospheric meeting place.It’s a popular theatre where everyone can enjoy culture and entertainment.
The Kunsthuis unites the Flemish Opera and the Royal Ballet of Flanders. It offers high-quality opera and ballet performances, both established pieces and new creations, in Antwerp.
The most important wind instrument ensemble in Belgium, I Solisti del Vento, has been in residence at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp since 1999. It also inhabits the International Art Campus deSingel. Their music for wind instruments measures up to a top international level. They have conquered a permanent place on concert agendas in Belgium and abroad.
Cofena fulfils a unique role in musical life in Antwerp. It attracts the greatest classical artists to our city, including Herbert von Karajan, Wilhem Kempf and the Berliner Philharmoniker. Cofena’s concerts prove th at classical music is alive and well.
Champ d’action is a production house for new music, sound art and multidisciplinary music projects. It’s unique and innovative,creative and critical,experimental and stimulating. Their produc tions are always interesting discoveries.
This legendary pub has been attracting artists and idealists since the 1960s. Hippie phenomenon Ferre Grignard started the tradition of café performances. De Muze remained a unique jazz café until a bailiff closed it in 2014… and loyal customers reopened it immediately. Check it out!
Enjoy some jazz, read a newspaper or watch hip people walk by. For years Den Hopper has been the top café for trendy players and cool cats. Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings you can enjoy lai d-back live music.
